Dear Class of ’61,

For several years a group of ‘gal’ classmates have enjoyed a mini-reunion in Florida at such places as Longboat Key, Naples, Ft. Lauderdale, The Ocala National Forest and Bellaire Beach.  In February Joanne Jaeger Webb and her husband Bob opened up their home for this annual event.  (Bob was exiled for much of the duration of our reunion – Ha!)

The gathering included Kris Fellabaum Rotte, Mary Kay Thomas Ross, Pat Haus Mankes and Joyce Romer.  Much to our disappointment, regular attendees, Jane Brucher Duning, Carol Quisno Pearce and Carol Malloy Jackson were unable to join us due to family commitments.

We reminisced, commiserated at being so gosh darn old and laughed a lot as we decadently dined and had fun seeing much of Tallahassee.  We learned interesting Florida history as we toured the Florida Capitol Complex and were awed by the splendor of charming Pebble Hill Plantation, a large antebellum home dating back to 1841.

A warm sunny day found us taking a jungle cruise at Wakulla Springs where many famous movies were filmed such as The Creature from the Black Lagoon, Airport 77 and the Johnny Weismuller Tarzan movies.

Fellow Woodwardites Doug Loveless (class of ’61) and his wife Ellie (Wacksman) Loveless (class of ’64) invited us to their lovely lakeside home for a special dinner that also masked a surprise birthday party for Joanne!  (By this time banished Bob had returned home.)  Chef Doug deep fried shrimp and fresh Florida Grouper that he and Ellie had caught at the Coast the day before …YUM!  Following dinner all of us attended the Prism Concert, an explosive concert featuring 700 members of Florida State University’s musical students and faculty members.  Good thing Bob brought ear plugs for us!
